AN INFORMATIVE PURPLE MARTIN VIDEO!

Each year, Purple Martins leave Brazil to migrate northward to their nesting and breeding sites in North America. Their much anticipated arrival announces the return of warm and pleasant spring days. And, for the Purple Martin landlords, it is the time to open the martin houses to attract, what is considered by many, as our most beautiful swallows, Purple Martins.

A new video, produced by a member of both The Purple Martin Society, NA and Association Des Amateurs D'Hirondelles member (Quebec, Canada), Monsieur Carol Arcand, will allow you to discover the fascinating behaviors and manners of the beautiful Purple Martin. You will follow the stages of the nesting season, beginning with the martins' departure from the São Paulo State in Brazil, South America, until the fledging of the last nestlings in North America. You will see the oily refinery where martins roost in Manaus, Brazil as well as the city parks where many martins roost for the night in São Paulo. You will be able to hear the typical calls of the Purple Martin as well as the special sounds of the Purple Martin dawnsong that announces the laying of first eggs in the nest.

This is not only a beautiful video to watch but a very unique one. There is no other video like this!

For those who dream of establishing a Purple Martin colony, the video's impressive images will provide interesting information for a better understanding of the species' requirements that is so important to know before that new Purple Martin house is purchased.

Originally produced only in French, it is now available in English for those in the US and Canada.  If you are interested in knowing more about the quality of this video now, surf to the following Internet address:  http://pages.infinit.net/prosubis/video.htm

Editor's Note:  I have viewed Monsieur Arcand's video and give it a rousing two-thumbs up! It is a lovely vision of Purple Martins with wonderful digital quality video, lovely accompanying music, close up shots of martins in day-to-day activities. While originally viewing the forty-minute video in French with only a high school French background, I thoroughly enjoy this splendid film even in French. Now, available in English, it is an even wonderful and meaningful video.

The picture is a still photo from the Arcand PM video showing a female martin sitting on eggs in her nest inside the Purple Martin house.

Some of the highlights are of the well-known Purple Martin colony site of the Bird Lady of Quebec, Madame Girard of the Montreal, Canada. Madame Girard's impressively-large and beautiful Purple Martin colony, situated along the magnificent St. Lawrence River, boasts an incredible two-hundred pairs of Purple Martins.

Another highlight profiled by Monsieur Arcand, using his talents as an experienced television cameraman, are some incredible shots of flying Purple Martins, including martins splash-bathing in the St. Lawrence River as well as the martins shown gathering mud along the river for their nest construction.

Without a doubt, this video will make a fine informational addition to any landlord's martin collection, not to mention a wonderful gift to give any Purple Martin landlord.
