Hey Thomas,
Have all your birds returned from last year yet? I only have three pairs so far which is down from the 8 I had last year. Have you seen any SY's this year? I got a report that one of our landlords saw some up here but I cannot confirm this. It seems like they are a little slower coming back this year- do you agree? How's your S&S control going? I have only eradicated one starling this year and have not had any trouble so far. We're still in the 60's here and rain today. I want this past weekend's weather back...70's and sunny with Purple Martins in the air.

17MAR2010 – clear blue skies – 50F
I have counted as many as 8 rooms occupied at night. During the day it is hard to get and exact count
with their coming and going. I have not seen any sub-adult here yet. They are hard to spot until they’re
engaged fighting with the adult males. They look so much like an adult female except that they is not
a ring around their neck and get close enough, the chest feathers is totally different than that of the
female’s.
It sprinkled all day (on and off) that I could not continue to work on my gardening and digging. We
started to create a walkway from my patio to the new storage shed. So far we have dug all of the
dirt and it is ready for the foundation (crushed rocks).
I did not need to listen to anything else while at my back yard except for the PM’s and other wild
birds at my backyard. Just awesome!
I hear the PM’s singing while I am writing this in my little shop (wireless).

Thomas,
I know what you mean about listening to your martins. My daughter is home for spring break and she brought her boom box out in the back to listen to her music. We compromised and she listened to that 'noise' for half the day and I listened to my birds the other half. She said to me " Dad your birds are kind of cool for 5 minutes and then I get bored". I told her I felt the same way about her tunes except I was having trouble listening to her stuff way sooner than 5 minutes. I told her she was going to scare them off- ha.
Your shed and walkway sound nice. If you ever get bored and need something to do you could come up to my place at DFW & do the same for me-ha.
