I so have some pics of this tower around,I will have to check. Sadly it is no longer up as far as I know. The maker of said tower was Dennis Zwerenz of Hampsire IL, When I visited him last fall it was removed and packed away. He was trying to find a place for it where it would be used successfully. He was attempting to have it placed in a state park in WI last time I remember.

Is this that big tower I read about that had an elevator in the center?

Hello,

Regarding the PM Tower that was formerly installed in Hampshire, IL, here is a link to an article on this wonderfully interesting and immense PM house. It was really a wonderful scientific tool to study martins. Unfortunately, for several reasons, it never got martins nesting inside. It was in an area with very few martins for one.

Dear Mike,

Here, I have uploaded some photos of the PM Tower. Of all that I have seen, purple martin wise, over the years, this was the best and the nestest.

This first photo shows the massive look of the thirty foot tower that could house well over one hundred martins. It was a structure that could scientifically help in research of martin and starling/sparrow behavior.

I believe this next photo is shot from the dark inside (there are lights and a heater and a fan inside also). I believe the illumination is a light in every compartment. You could easily see nesting martin behavior through a two way mirror.

This photo shows a sparrow in one of the compartments that we could see from the inside. We were amazed that the normal tone of our conversation did not bother the sparrow. As long as the sparrow did not see us, it was not alarmed.
