Everyone that has an active martin colony should have a "ground climbing" predator guard on their martin pole.
There are several you can make or purchase:
Stovepipe Baffle http://purplemartins.com/OutsideResources/Landlords/predation/GL_baffle.htm
36"-40" metal cone
"Range-type" (or any oversized) bucket guard.
