2011 Old Farmers Almanac Foresees a weak La Ninia
Most of the US will see a colder than usual winter while summer and spring will be relatively cool and dry according to the time honored, complex calculations of the 2011 issue of the Old Farmers Almanac. The almanac is forecasting a weak La Ninia, the climate phenomenon marked by an unusual cooling of the sea surface in the Tropical Pacific Ocean. That means much of the Eastern half of the United States will experience lower than normal temperatures with less snow, while Mid Atlantic states will see more snowfall than usual. The west will see a mild winter with average precipitation. Meanwhile, the Rockies should get a mild and dry winter.
I thought I'd pass this on since the weather can affect our birds and their food source.Do you think when they say "weak" La Ninia that translates to "almost normal"?
Please send in your 2010 Colony report to my e-mail address so that we can count your results in our study. I'm still seeing chimney swifts in mid september- Is that normal??
