Default The Garland Roost

Hello Everyone,

In case you didn't know, our annual 'pilgrimage' to the Garland Roost is on Saturday August 4th. The directions are below and on our website. Make sure you can be in Garland by 7:30pm. They will be in the trees of the AMF Bowling Lanes parking lot (9 trees in the south/east corner, as of now) to rest there after 8:00pm for the night. I hope to see you there. It really is very cool to see that many Martin's in one place. It does a heart good to know, that each of us landlords contributed in our own way to that huge mass of birds. I'll put pictures here and on our Facebook page.

For the Grand Prairie Martin landlords who wish to go to the roost there will be an easy way. I worked with the Summit Manager.Linda Long and we can ride on their bus to Garland for $5.00 a person. Please call me by Monday, 30 July 2012 so I can make the reservation. Do call or you will miss out.
Call Gisela at: 972-641-2981

Departure time is 6:00pm. They should be back at the Summit building by 9:00pm.

Default August 4 Roost Vist

Hello Everyone,

It was another great evening for the birds and our Club. About 25 members came to watch the birds come in for the night. Robert Moehler took video and has a link to YouTube if you are interested to hear from members and watch the birds. It's at

http://youtu.be/9JtzMqLzJ0w

There was a huge hawk sitting on top of a light in the parking lot adjacent to the back parking lot of the bowling alley so the Purple Martins stayed out front. They were initially on some high tension wires and eventually settled into the trees just at dark. It is a miracle of nature and a real treat to watch thousands and thousands of Purple Martins descend into the roost. Very cool. I will post some pictures and video on our Purple Martin Landlords of North Texas facebook page too.

John
