Default Bird Chirping Sound

In a recent USA Today article by Roger Yu:
The bird-chirping sound that echoes through Detroit metro's McNamara Terminal is not, like other airports , piped through speakers.

It seems the terminal has all the trppings of a bird sanctuary - a large water fountain, artificial plants, food crumbs from resturants and a tall ceiling with metal beams. Over the years birds have entered the terminalthrough the cracks. bird droppings have been an issue. "We don't want them there due to potential health problems", spokesman Michael Conway says. "But people seem to like hearing the bird sound".

Airport officials have been working with wildlife specialists to shoo them out. They've captured some but haven't located the cracks.

It doesn't say it in the article but I'd bet we're talking 'sparrows' here. Whaddya think?

Unhappy

Hi John,

When you say sparrows, I am assuming that you are referring to House Sparrows.

From what I have learned about HOSPs...yes I would agree. They are opportunist. I wish they would find the cracks and plug them up!

Dear John,

Yes, you are on the money! They are most likely House Sparrows. I have seen them, unfortunately, in supermarkets and in places like Lowe's, Home Depot and the like. And, with an open bag of birdseed, they seem pretty happy inside!--Particularly in the cold winters of the north. They are snowbirds inside human buildings and businesses.

Terry
