Default Nest Box Trap Remounted

10OCT2010- NBT Remounted
I lowered my NBT last year for the second time I had this trap up. I lowered it a total of two feet for it
was catching Purple Martins. I was just too lazy to go get the tall ladder in order to put the entrance
hole blocker in which it would only allow European House Sparrows to enter. At this height it did not
catch as much as when it was a foot or 2 feet higher. If this does not catch as much as it used to, I will
raise it another foot. All I have to do is make the extension tube (in the cage) a foot longer and move
the mounting of the NBT assembly a foot higher.
With this tilt pole mount, this will eliminate the use of a ladder and possibly falling off of it…hehehehe.

NBT assembly down for service.

NBT assembly up.

Holding cage with water and food tray with the extension tube.

Default A Good Sign

11OCT2010 – A Promising Sign
Yesterday I trimmed some braches from the Crepe Myrtle and cleared at least a foot of clearance all
the around the NBT. I think this may have helped entice those little buggers to check out the NBT.
This morning while enjoying a mug of java, busy watching all of the bird activities in my back yard,
I saw three European House Sparrows all over my NBT. Each one of them took turns in poking their
little heads inside the NBT. None of them went inside. Now I now that the taller NBT is a good thing.

Default Good Sign Realized

12NOV2010 Partly cloudy, warm 81F
We got home from lunch today and I saw movement in the holding cage for the NBT.
I went for a closer look and a pair of European House Saparrows are in it.

This is the first catch since it was re-mounted.

Default First starling catch after remount

02DEC2010, Blue Skies 60F
Yesterday, I saw three starlings hanging around my site, and I was able to take one of them down. This
morning I took another one with my air rifle. It was jumping from one room to next trying to find one
that was opened. All of the 12 PM rooms I have are closed until I see the first arrival. I did not see the
third one until I went to check on my working sparrows. This is when I saw the third starling in the
holding cage of my NBT.
Now I am convinced that the higher the trap is, it works much better for me.

First starling catch since remount.
