Don Wilkins of Park Rapids, MN.
The
photo is an example of a horizontally-hung gourd. Martins
take to these gourds.
Typically,
this method is done with gourds that have very long necks
on them, however, the gourd below is not a typically long-necked
gourd.
Horizontally-hung
gourds have been exemplified at both the Don Wilkins' colony
in Park Rapids, MN, and also that of Victor Stoll of Finger,
TN.
The
gourd also shows a different type of gourd access port. The
gourd access port is made from "lightweight" PVC
piping. The cost to make this is about $.65. A bandsaw
is recommended to do this. Details on the PVC lid gourd access
port will follow.
