The Purple Martin Society, NA

horizont-grd.jpg (19750 bytes)The photo is a gourd from the colony of PM Society member, Don Wilkins of Park Rapids, MN.

The photo is an example of a horizontally-hung gourd. Martins take to these gourds.

Typically, this method is done with gourds that have very long necks on them, however, the gourd below is not a typically long-necked gourd.

Horizontally-hung gourds have been exemplified at both the Don Wilkins' colony in Park Rapids, MN, and also that of Victor Stoll of Finger, TN.

The gourd also shows a different type of gourd access port. The gourd access port is made from "lightweight" PVC piping.  The cost to make this is about $.65. A bandsaw is recommended to do this. Details on the PVC lid gourd access port will follow.
